Frequently Asked Questions

What is your eligibility criteria for support?

Your child must have been admitted to hospital within the last 7 days.

Your child’s condition must be life-threatening or life-limiting.

Your child must be under the age of 18.

All applications must be made by a professional, either at the hospital where your child is receiving treatment, or from a charity that is supporting you.

Do you help with accommodation costs?

Yes – we can pay for accommodation costs for several days if you have limited finances and are unable to access accommodation through the hospital. This will include breakfast where the option is available.

Are there any restrictions or exclusions on assistance with accommodation costs?

Yes – your child must be an inpatient at a hospital away from where you live. Also, we are unable to reimburse you for any accommodation you have already booked or paid for. We always book accommodation on your behalf.

Will the accommodation be close to the hospital?

Yes – we always aim to book accommodation within a mile of the hospital. If accommodation is requested at very short notice and affordable rooms in the city-centre are booked up, we may have to arrange accommodation further afield.

Are grant awards means-tested?

No – we want to keep our application process as simple as possible and trust that only those with a financial need will apply.

Are food & travel grant awards paid directly into my bank account?

Yes – we do our best to make payments the same day as an application is processed, but depending on timescales, they may be made the next working day.

Can a grant for accommodation costs be paid directly to me?

No – we always pay the accommodation provider directly on your behalf.

Can I re-apply for a grant?
If your child is an inpatient for an extended period and you are in financial hardship, you may re-apply through a professional involved in their care. We can make a maximum of two awards per family for the period your child is an inpatient.
Can you help with other costs associated with my child’s care/needs?
In exceptional circumstances we may be able to assist with other costs, such as clothing costs for your child, but this is discretional and cannot be guaranteed. We have a limited budget and have to prioritise our primary grant-making objectives.
If I want to fundraise, provide a testimonial or volunteer my time/skills in some way, who do I contact?

We are always looking for feedback on our work, and as a small charity, are extremely grateful for any support you can give us. Please complete the contact form above, and we will be in touch as soon as we can to discuss your suggestions further.
